Everything I Learned About Organizing I Learned From Star Wars

Celebrating May the Fourth…

Was Star Wars the source of my organization knowledge? Let’s face it, with all the movies and shows in the Star Wars Universe there are lots of lessons that can be learned. In this post, I’ll break down how Star Wars may actually hold some great organization messages.

There is Always Hope

“Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.”

A professional organizer may not be Obi-Wan, but when you are feeling overwhelmed and there is no hope left, there really is someone you can call for help.

Restoring Balance is Not Easy, But it Can Be Done

“Bring back the balance, Rey, as I did.” Anakin Skywalker.

It is never easy to find balance. Then when you think you have finally found it, it gets all out of whack again. In the end, with a little hope and some hard work, balance can always be restored. Start small by tidying up your personal space…and take a few deep breaths.

A Strong Woman Can Organize Anything

Thank you Princess Leia. Need I say more?

Just Because It’s Cute Doesn’t Mean You Need To Collect Them

Those Ewoks were really cute to look at, and they were helpful in taking down The Empire…but if circumstances didn’t work out the way they did, then our favorite Star Wars characters could have been dinner.

While you may not have any cute little collectibles in your house that will eat you, you may find yourself trapped under the strain of clutter from having too many. Ask yourself if the things you collect add value to your life. If they do, then by all means, collect them. However, if they don’t…it may be time to send them back to the Moon of Endor.

You Can Use a Jedi Mind Trick to Get a Kid to Part With Toys

Ok, maybe not exactly…but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’ve tried it. Sometimes you do have the power to influence a kiddo to get rid of unused toys. But, if a Jedi Mind Trick doesn’t work, try rotating toys in and out periodically. This will reduce some clutter, and give them “something new” when you rotate them back out again.

Pack Things Nicely Away and You Will Be Able to Find Them Again

There is no better lesson of this than when the Lightsaber calls to Rey in The Force Awakens. There it is, tucked nicely into a box, and bam…easily found by Rey. And in working condition, I might add. Coincidence, I don’t think so.

If things are important enough to keep, they are always important enough to be stored with some level of care.

Matchy Matchy Makes an Impact…But That’s Not Always What You Need

The Storm Troopers look all uniform and make a great impact with their all-white armor. But sometimes the ratty band of heroes can make just as good of an impact. It’s the same with organization. Bins and baskets serve their purpose by containing like items whether they match or not. If it’s organized and works for you then it doesn’t need to look Pinterest-worthy.

And last but not least, we have the ultimate words of wisdom from our favorite, Yoda.

“Do or Do not. There is No Try.”

I wish you a Happy Star Wars Day…May the Fourth (and the force) be With You!
